A crown is a durable, realistic looking covering that is custom-made to fit over your entire tooth. Dental crowns have traditionally been fabricated in a dental laboratory, but with technological advances in dentistry, you can now avoid the hassle of multiple office visits getting same-day dental crowns in our Cedar Park practice.
CEREC is an innovative dental technology that allows dentists to create and produce ceramic dental restorations in-office. CEREC crowns are created from high-quality ceramic material, and produce crowns that look, feel and function like a natural tooth. Having the ability to create and produce dental restorations on-site dramatically decreases the wait time for permanent crowns.
How it Works
Dr. Sura will complete a thorough exam of damaged teeth to determine if a same-day crown is right for you. Your tooth is prepared just as it would be for a traditional crown that is fabricated in a lab. To prepare your tooth for a same-day CEREC crown, Dr. Sura will numb the tooth and surrounding tissues and then shape your tooth to make room for the crown. If needed, he will also use a filling material to build up the tooth to support the crown.
Once your tooth is prepared for the dental crown, impressions are taken with a digital sensor, using state-of-the-art CEREC CAD/CAM technology, allowing you to avoid the hassle of having to deal with gooey traditional impression materials.
Special 3-D software is then used to convert the impression into a digital model that is used to create your crown using a CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) system. The Planmill machine mills the dental crown. Once the crown is fabricated, Dr. Sura will try it in to make sure it fits perfectly, cement the crown, and you will be ready to go with your permanent restoration in just one office visit to our Reveal Dental Cedar Park location.
