Leander Dentist | Reveal Dental

Your dentist in Leander will always be there when you need us – but we honestly prefer to see our patients with healthy smiles!  Preventative care is always the best approach to dentistry, and there are so many things you can do to help keep your teeth healthy.

These are the things we’d most like to see our patients doing, to reduce the number of dental problems they have.

Five Must-Do’s When Protecting Your Teeth, Straight from Your Leander Dentist

  1. Always brush before bed

Yes, dentists advise you to brush at least twice a day – but if nothing else, please make sure to brush before bed.  Otherwise, you’ll have bits of the previous day’s meal rotting in your teeth all night, greatly increasing your chances of cavities.

(Your morning breath will be much better too!)

  1. Use a toothpaste with fluoride

We know that fluoride has come under a lot of scrutiny, but it’s also one of the most studied chemicals people use in everyday life.  Fluoride is 100% safe, and it’s the best protector of teeth that science currently knows.  You will have better teeth if you make sure to brush with fluoride.

  1. Floss once a day

No, flossing isn’t fun, and it’s a bit tedious.  However, it’s at least as effective as brushing in protecting your teeth.  In particular, it protects the in-between areas where cavities love to form, which often aren’t well-cleaned by toothbrushes.  Plus, it prevents plaque buildup and encourages healthy gums.

  1. Drink more water, less cola

Drinking colas is soaking your mouth in sugar and acid.  There are a few things you can put in your mouth that are more harmful to your teeth.  In the meantime, water won’t hurt your teeth, and flushing your mouth with water helps remove particulate food left over after meals.

Flushing with soda just adds more sugar and acid.

  1. See a dentist twice a year

Nothing gets your teeth clean like a professional teeth cleaning from your Leander dentist.  Even if you have great oral care habits, twice-yearly visits to your dentist will help protect your mouth, as well as give you early warning of any problems on the horizon.
